General Meeting:

"Publishing Your Family History"
Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 7:00 pm

Presented by Sierra Pope

The talk will cover design concepts and content considerations for publishing your family history. The focus will be a demonstration on how to incorporate text, design elements, and images into the pages of your book using one of the publishing platforms.
Discussion will include the range of possibilities for a genealogy book, from a complete family genealogy with all the footnotes to a book of family photographs and mementos.

A book focused on a single family event or period of time may be a good place to start.

There will be a comparison of the options available with several of the companies providing self publishing. Privacy, and copyright considerations will also be addressed.

The share and tell segment of the meeting will focus on published content. Members are encouraged to share books they have published and any tips about the their publishing experience are welcome. For historical reference, earlier works such as biographies, local history books or family genealogy volumes would be of interest as well.

About our Meetings:

The Genealogical Society General meetings are open to the public, with no admission fee. Feel free to drop in! Bring your friends as everyone is welcome. Come early and ask your burning genealogical questions of other members before the meeting.

We meet on the 4th Thursday of every month, with a couple of exceptions. November's meeting is held on the 3rd Thursday, due to Thanksgiving. There is no general meeting in May, due to our Annual Picnic, nor in December, due to the holidays and our Winter Holiday Party.

Annually, several of our regularly scheduled meetings have a certain focus: April, we hold our Annual General Meeting and Elections (but there's usually a presentation also); May of each year we hold an Anniversary Celebration or Annual Picnic; and in September, we have a workshop.
