“Irish Genealogy”

Researching your Irish ancestors is becoming easier with the publication of the Catholic Parish Registers and the rapid increase in DNA testing.

Speaker, Margaret Cooley, has researched her Irish genealogy and published The McQueeneys: From Ireland to America. Margaret will focus on the effects of the Famine in Ireland and why the Irish people left their native land for opportunities all over the world, including personalized stories of the immigrants.

The Irish diaspora during the famine years -1840-1870 - is at the heart of understanding how and why our Irish ancestors came to be in America.

Margaret is an educator and author, she will be presenting “Family Stories Workshop: Creating Narratives from Family Records” as part of The Irish- American Crossroads program series on March 26th, 2017.

The share and tell segment of the meeting will focus on sharing tips and techniques for tracking down Irish ancestors.

About our Meetings:

The Genealogical Society General meetings are open to the public, with no admission fee. Feel free to drop in! Bring your friends as everyone is welcome. Come early and ask your burning genealogical questions of other members before the meeting.

We meet on the 4th Thursday of every month, with a couple of exceptions. November's meeting is held on the 3rd Thursday, due to Thanksgiving. There is no general meeting in May, due to our Annual Picnic, nor in December, due to the holidays and our Winter Holiday Party.

Annually, several of our regularly scheduled meetings have a certain focus: April, we hold our Annual General Meeting and Elections (but there's usually a presentation also); May of each year we hold an Anniversary Celebration or Annual Picnic; and in September, we have a workshop.
