MCGS Research Library Holdings and Facilities
The Marin County Genealogical Society (MCGS) Research Library resides in the San Rafael (Marin) Family History Center (FHC). In a joint partnership, MCGS supplied the library and FHC provided the facilities, including computers and readers for microfiche and microfilm. All are for public use - all to assist in one's research.
ALL ITEMS IN THE MCGS LIBRARY COLLECTION ARE NON-CIRCULATING. They must be used on-site.
The library's contents and facilities are held in 3 rooms at the FHC:
- Office/Library is home to our books. Go to the Catalog page for detailed contents. It's also home for a printer/scanner and a photocopy device using one's own camera (seen to left of red chairs); both can be used to copy documents - large or small.
Computer Room houses computers but no library materials. The computers are available for accessing the Premium Family History Websites available through the FHC subscription, and for using CDs that are part of the library collection. CDs can be used by appointment only.
This room also houses periodicals and the California Collection, including Marin County. See Catalog
- Microfilm/fiche Room contains the equipment to view microfilm and microfiche - their “readers”. Go to the Microfilm and Services page for more information. There's also a flatbed scanner.
