DONATE TO OUR RESEARCH LIBRARY
The Society accepts publications related to genealogical research. In particular, items relating to Marin County and/or neighboring counties would be valuable. These can include books, maps, and/or microfilms. MCGS accepts only certain periodicals. A list of accepted periodicals will be provided upon request.
Board approval is needed to accept any personal research records and documents.
MCGS does not accept artifacts, informally published documents, digital representations of publications, or photographs, unless part of a personal research record which has been approved by the Board.
Other institutions, such as the Anne T. Kent California Room Digital Archive, and the Marin History Museum may accept artifacts of local historical interest.
Items donated to MCGS Research Library become property of MCGS. Librarians have the right to determine a donation’s inclusion or not in our collection, its being cataloged or not, and its retention and disposal schedule.
Usually donations to the MCGS Research Library have nominal monetary value. If a donor requests a confirmation of a donation, a letter will be sent, without specifying any monetary value.
We are a library rather than a historical society. Our focus is principally items easily used within the Library for research purposes, both of a general and of a regional interest related to genealogy and family history. We strive to meet the Society’s Mission Statement to “Encourage stewardship of genealogical holdings”.
